A Moment of Thanks

During my hospitality career, I have been privileged to observe and learn from many corporate and property managers. Each with their own unique style and "spin".

I am forever grateful to each of them for knowingly (or unknowingly) demonstrating professionalism and the art of hospitality to me.

Thank you so very much!

The Light and Warmth of Hospitality

An awesome, timeless and inspirational speech given by Hilton Hotels founder Conrad Hilton at the American Hotel Association Conference in New York City on November 5, 1954 :

One upon a time, darkness and cold filled the world. Then one day, Prometheus decided to steal fire from the gods and bring it to earth. Lines of men, women and children waited, stretched from the highest mountaintop to the ends of the earth, ready to receive the flame — and pass it on. Suddenly came a flash of lightning, and the first torch of the nearest man was afire. Quickly the flame passed from hand to hand. From one flame came ten, from a hundred came a thousand, from city to city, country to country, until light and warmth filled the earth. That is the story of our industry. As hotel men and women, it is our responsibility to fill the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality.

Thoughtful Words

Whatever attitudes we habitually use toward ourselves, we will use on others, and whatever attitudes we habitually use toward others, we will use on ourselves. The situation is comparable to our serving food to ourselves and to other people from the same bowl. Everyone ends up eating the same thing--we must examine carefully what we are dishing out.

The Hotel Jerome
Aspen

A Grand Lady, originally built in 1889 during Colorado's silver mining days by Jerome B. Wheeler, best known as the owner of New York's Macy's department store.

The Jerome is one of a relatively small number of hotel properties designated as historic in the United States.

It is commonly said, "If you haven't been to the Hotel Jerome, you haven't been to Aspen".

I was privileged to work for this legendary property from 2006 to 2009 as Director of Engineering.
